  DEVOTION TO CHURCH

The Patriotic Degree consists of Catholic gentlemen steadfast to the Most Blessed Trinity and ideals of Catholicism. This should always remind us to live a good Christian life, and that we should never bring dishonor to Catholicism or the emblem we have been privileged to wear. By this, others may see our good works, through which we will glorify our Holy Religion, our Honored Order and our Beloved Country.

The Knights of Columbus is consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Order fosters devotion to Our Lady and, in particular, encourages its members and their families to pray the rosary as often as possible. The Order is unequivocal in its loyalty to the Pope, the Vicar of Christ on earth, our Bishops, and Priests.

  THE ROSARY
(How to Pray the Rosary)
  1. Looking at the cross, we hold it while we make the sign of the cross and say the Apostle's Creed which is a summary of all the things we believe as Catholics.
  2. On this separate bead, we say an Our Father, the prayer that Jesus taught us.
  3. On each of the next three beads, we say the Hail Mary.
  4. On this separate bead, we announce the first mystery. ( Joyful - Mondays and Saturdays, Sorrowful - Tuesdays and Fridays, Glorious - Wednesdays and Sundays, Luminous - Thursdays) We reflect on what happened to Jesus at this time and we think about what it means in our lives today. We say the Our Father.
  5. We say one Hail Mary on each of the next 10 beads. Then we say the Glory Be, then say the Fatima Prayer.
  6. On this separate bead, we announce the second mystery, (Joyful / Sorrowful / Glorious / Luminous) reflect, and say the Our Father.
  7. We say one Hail Mary on each of the next ten beads. Then we say the Glory Be, then say the Fatima Prayer.
  8. On this separate bead, we announce the third mystery, (Joyful / Sorrowful / Glorious / Luminous) reflect, and say the Our Father.
  9. We say one Hail Mary on each of the next ten beads. Then we say the Glory Be, then say the Fatima Prayer.
  10. On this separate bead, we announce the fourth mystery, (Joyful / Sorrowful / Glorious /  Luminous) reflect, and say the Our Father.
  11. We say one Hail Mary on each of the next ten beads. Then we say the Glory Be, then say the Fatima Prayer.
  12. On this separate bead, we announce the fifth mystery, (Joyful / Sorrowful / Glorious / Luminous) reflect, and say the Our Father.
  13. We say one Hail Mary on each of the next ten beads. Then we say the Glory Be, then say the Fatima Prayer.
  14. We have now reached the end of the Rosary. On the medal that connects the beads we pray the Hail Holy Queen.
  15. Please follow your local custom for other prayers at this point.
  16. Make the sign of the cross.
